If you're looking for a cute Spring themed felt board activity, then look no further than this flower counting game!

I recently made a big felt board for my kids. It's nothing fancy. Just a big sheet of black felt and some dollar store foam core boards.

Now we can use this felt board for a variety of storytelling activities like this Gruffalo one. Or for exploring emotions even, like we did with this mix and match monsters set. The possibilities are endless really.

But one of the first felt board activity sets that I made was this simple flower counting game. It's such a fun spring math activity for toddlers and preschoolers.

How to Make this Felt Flower Counting Activity for Kids

Here's what you'll need to make your own version of this flower math felt board set:

  • Felt cut into 15 stems, 15 flower shapes (daisies, tulips, etc.), 5 flower pots, and enough dots to complete any of the daisy-like flowers
  • Scissors to cut the felt into various flower stem and flower shape pieces
  • Felt board - Ours is homemade, as I already mentioned
I primarily used felt scraps since I had lots left over from making the kids' quiet books. I cut out all of the items for this felt board set free-hand, no patterns. That's just how I roll. Here is the entire play set:

Once you have all of your pieces cut out, it's time to set up this simple and fun counting activity. I placed the five flower pots on the felt board. In the first pot, I put one flower stem. In the second pot, I put two. Three in third, four in the fourth, and five in the fifth. Then I set out the remaining pieces on the floor next to the felt board. Like this:

The idea was to count out the correct number of flowers for each stem in the different pots. So one pot would have one flower. The next would have two. And so on. My oldest son J quickly started "planting" the flowers.

And here's J's finished felt flower garden, complete with 15 colorful flowers. This flower counting activity is just so perfect for spring, don't you think?
