Free Video Game Themed Posters for Writing a Complete Sentence

Many kids need reminders to include periods and capital letters when writing a complete sentence. These free video game themed posters can help! Kids can use them to check their work for complete sentences.

One advantage to having my boys doing online school is that I get to be even more involved in their day to day schoolwork. I can easily see where they are thriving and where they might need some extra support.

Then I can whip up some visuals or graphic organizers, as needed, or I can find supplemental materials that can explain concepts in different ways to help things stick.

One of my boys was getting regular comments from his teachers about forgetting periods and/or capital letters in his sentences. He's not alone here. I know many kids forget these things. I also overheard the teacher remind the entire class about this as well since many of his classmates were also forgetting to use complete sentences.

Anyway, one morning I had this brilliant idea to take his passion for video games and create him a visual aid. Something that would help him remember to write in complete sentences and check for the most common things that basic sentences need.

And that's where these free video game themed posters for writing a complete sentence come in. He absolutely loves it. As I knew he would! I mean you add video games to anything and he's all over it.

After I made this visual, I snapped a quick photo and shared it in my Instagram stories. Turns out quite a few people wanted a copy for their kids as well. So here we are...

Free video game themed visual aids for writing a complete sentence

How to Use these Posters to Check for Complete Sentences

The main point of using these posters is to encourage a child to self-check their work for complete sentences.

In particular, they can use these posters to check that their sentences have a capital letter at the beginning and a period at the end.

Now, since these are video game controller themed, the terminology used on these posters play off the start and select buttons found on controllers. So did they start their sentence with a capital letter? Did they select the correct punctuation to end their sentence with?

Obviously I've paired these statements with some cute video game controller clipart. By the way, it's the same clipart that was used for these coping skills worksheets and this I spy game. You know, in case you want some more interest-based printables for your video game loving kiddo...Can you tell I have some huge video game fans in my house??

Anyway, these complete sentence posters are great to hang up both at home or in the classroom. Just put them somewhere that makes it easy for your child to reference when reviewing their written work. I have one hanging up on my son's white board by his work station for online school.

Free printable vampire themed emotions bingo game for kids that's perfect for Halloween

About this Vampire Themed Emotions Bingo Game

If you're familiar with bingo at all, then you'll know how to play this game. The main differences here are that there are only 3 columns and 3 rows instead of the usual 5. There is also no free space on these cards.

To play, shuffle the calling cards and place them in a pile face down. Draw a card and read the name of the emotion shown on the card.

Then, using the image on the calling card as a reference, check to see if that emotion is on your game card or not. If it is, cover the spot using a bingo dabber (if unlaminated), cross it off with a dry erase marker (if laminated), or use a some kind of small manipulative like a Halloween mini eraser, glass stone, or poker chip.

I also highly recommend laminating the bingo game cards and calling cards first for durability. Here's the laminator I use and love.

If you don't have a laminator, then you can also just use clear sheet protectors, which you can usually find at the dollar store. Just slip the printable inside and voila!

Free Printable Candy Corn Emotions Memory Matching Game

Here's a fun Halloween themed memory matching game for kids. It has adorable candy corn emojis, making it a great way to teach kids about emotions.

Memory games are great for building all sorts of skills. They can improve vocabulary, build memory skills, improve visual skills, encourage kids to pay attention to details...the list goes on and on.

And, as you can probably guess by the title, this particular game that I'm sharing below also focuses on teaching emotions.

This candy corn emotions memory matching game is perfect for building emotional vocabulary this Halloween. And I think your kids are going to love it!

Free printable candy corn emotions themed memory matching game

About this Candy Corn Emotions Memory Matching Game

You're probably already familiar with the game of memory. To play, you place all the cards face down. Then you flip two cards over. If they're a match, keep them face up. If they're not, flip them back face down. Repeat until you find all the matches. It's super easy to play.

Now, this particular game contains 12 different emotions to match, including happy, sad, surprised, nervous, mad, excited, silly, frustrated, bored, scared, calm, and upset.

Each card features a candy corn emoji and a written word to describe the emotion. Remember, it's important to use the written word with hyperlexic kids!

I highly recommend printing this game on cardstock as its thicker and more durable than regular paper. When you print on paper, you can often see through it a bit, which will kind of ruin the point of this game. The idea is to remember where you saw the different emotions. Being able to see through the paper is kind of like cheating. So yeah, print on cardstock.

You could even look for some fun Halloween themed cardstock that has a print on one side and is blank/white on the other side.

Free Printable Pumpkin Themed Emotions Chart

A free printable pumpkin themed emotions chart for kids. It's perfect for helping kids open up about their emotions around Halloween time.

Many kids are excited about Halloween. But there are also many who are not. They might be worried or nervous instead. So that means that some kids might need a bit of extra support when it comes to emotional regulation during this holiday season.

A good starting point is to help kids identify and label their feelings about Halloween.

And one way to do that is to use this free printable pumpkin themed emotions chart. It's a simple way to open up discussions about how your child might be feeling.

Free printable pumpkin themed emotions chart for kids

About this Pumpkin Emotions Chart

This emotions chart is perfect for using in the fall months, leading up to Halloween. It's a fun and festive way to talk about different emotions that your child might be feeling.

Your child can simply point to the pumpkin face that represents how they're feeling or they could draw a circle around the pumpkin. There's even an option to draw and name their own emotion using a blank pumpkin as their canvas. It's almost like carving their own pumpkin...just without the ooey, gooey mess of the pumpkin guts.

Anyway, if you're planning to draw on it, then I highly recommend laminating this printable first and using dry erase markers. That way you can reuse it day after day. Here's the laminator I use and love

If you don't have a laminator, then you can also just use clear sheet protectors, which you can usually find at the dollar store. Just slip the printable inside and voila!

Encourage kids to talk about their emotions with this free printable Halloween monster themed I am feeling drawing prompt. It is inspired by Frankenstein's monster.

So some kids might need some extra support with their emotions at Halloween.

And that's where this free printable Frankenstein's monster themed I am feeling drawing prompt comes in.

It's a simple, low pressure activity to get kids opening up about how they're feeling this Halloween.

Free printable Halloween emotions activity inspired by Frankenstein's monster. This I am Feeling Drawing prompt is a great way to get kids talking about their emotions.

About this Frankenstein's Monster Themed I am Feeling Drawing Prompt

This activity is all about letting kids express themselves and how they are feeling by drawing their emotions.

All they need to do is add some expressive eyes and some kind of mouth to the monster's blank face. Noses totally optional here. They can use the provided examples to draw from if they'd like or they can draw their own from scratch.

Encourage your child to explain what they're drawing and what they're feeling. Or better yet, make a comment about what you notice in their drawings. Something like, "I noticed that you drew a big smile." can go a long way to opening up the discussion here. So can a comment such as, "I wonder why this monster looks sad."

I highly recommend laminating this printable first and using dry erase markers to draw on it. Here's the laminator I use and love

If you don't have a laminator, then you can also just use clear sheet protectors, which you can usually find at the dollar store. Just slip the printable inside and voila!

Free Fall Word Scramble Printable for Kids

This free printable fall word scramble game is perfect for kids of all ages.

Word games are a favorite among hyperlexic kids. It's why something like these Scrabble math games were a favorite of my son's for like forever. As were word searches.

But one other type of word game that my son loves is word scrambles. I personally loved them as a kid too and still do enjoy them as an adult as well. So I'm super stoked that he likes them as well.

So that's where this fall word scramble comes in. It's currently fall/autumn. (Although it might not look like it at the moment with the small layer of snow I see outside my window as I type this.) We like word games. So it seemed like a no-brainer to combine the two, right?

By the way, did I mention that this fall word scramble PDF is free? It sure is!

The Best Pumpkin Sensory Bins for Kids

Looking for pumpkin sensory bins for kids? Well, try these awesome pumpkin sensory bin activities! They're great for toddlers and preschoolers.

Between Thanksgiving (the Canadian one at least!) and Halloween, October is the perfect month for doing all of the pumpkin theme activities. That might mean carving a pumpkin or two together. Or it might mean a trip to the pumpkin patch, some pumpkin pie (yum!), and/or enjoying a little pumpkin sensory play.

It's that last part that we're obviously going to focus on here. The title does say pumpkin sensory bins after all.

Below you will find lots of great pumpkin sensory play ideas to keep toddlers and preschoolers busy. I focused primarily on bins that used pumpkin manipulatives or real pumpkins versus ones that showed you how to make pumpkin spiced fillers like cloud dough and whatnot. That would have made this list gigantic otherwise!

Pumpkin sensory bins for kids

Your Kids are Going to Love these Pumpkin Sensory Bins!

1. Acorn & Pumpkin Sensory Bin with Water (pictured below and in collage) - Super simple to set up, but loads of fun. Perfect for kids who love to scoop and pour.

While it might get a bit messy and many kids might not enjoy the texture, it looks like tons of fun! Plus, it's a great way to reuse the waste when it's pumpkin carving time.

6. Pumpkin & Kinetic Sand Sensory Bin from 3 Dinosaurs - We're huge fans of kinetic sand around here. It's just one of those sensory bin fillers that is great for kids of all ages. This activity pairs it with some little acrylic pumpkins, which happen to be perfect for stamping in the kinetic sand too.

The Best YouTube Channels for Kids who are Hyperlexic

Here are the best YouTube channels for kids who are hyperlexic as recommended by parents of hyperlexic kids.

Tired of listening to or watching the same ABC songs and youtube videos over and over with your hyperlexic child?

Well, you're in luck! I've got some recommendations for some hopefully new-to-you kids YouTube channels that you can add into rotation for your hyperlexic child.

When it came to compiling this list of the best YouTube channels for kids who are hyperlexic, I knew I had to ask for a bit of help. So I crowdsourced this list by asking parents of hyperlexic kids what channels their kids were watching on repeat.

Below you will find the top suggestions as recommended by parents like yourself. And hopefully you'll also find some new favorites for your child.

The Best YouTube Channels for Kids who are Hyperlexic

When I asked parents of hyperlexic kids to share their child's favorite YouTube channels, here's what was recommended. Maybe you'll find a new favorite (or two!) for your child.

1. Numberjacks - This channel is all about ten superhero numbers. So it's the perfect fit for kids with hypernumeracy. I mean it doesn't get any better than talking numbers saving the day!

2. Jack Hartmann Kids Music Channel - This channel is all about fun and educational music and there are tons of videos dedicated to the alphabet, counting, and sight words. He even has a playlist dedicated to learning the alphabet in sign language. Seriously, the videos here should keep your hyperlexic child entertained for a long time!

3. Alphablocks - This show is easily the most talked about show in the hyperlexia support groups, alongside Numberblocks. Hyperlexic kids love it!

4. Numberblocks - Here's another show that's discussed all the time as being a favorite amongst hyperlexic kids. We're talking making birthday cakes inspired by it and everything. So if numbers are your child's thing, then give these videos a try.

5. Storybots - There are tons of fun Storybots videos including songs about numbers, colors, time, animals, and, of course, letters. But there's more than just songs here. The Netflix Jr. channel has lots of different Storybots playlists to check out.

6. Mathantics Channel - This channel teaches kids about math. So basically it's right up my son's alley, just like it would be for any kids with hypernumeracy.

7. Brain Candy TV - If your hyperlexic kid is into vehicles at all, then this is the channel for them! You'll find educational videos about the alphabet, numbers, colors, and more all while using fun vehicles and a dog named Lizzie. For example, you can learn about the letter D with the help of a dump truck.

8. Preschool Prep Company - With series names like Meet the Math Facts, Meet the Sight Words, Meet the Letters, and Meet the Numbers, it's no wonder hyperlexic kids love this channel. There are even Spanish episodes too.

9. Muffalo Potato - I swear this channel was created with hyperlexic kids in mind! It's all about learning to draw using only numbers and letters. There's even an entire playlist dedicated to gaming characters like Mario and Sonic, which if you know my family at all, you know how perfect that is!

10. Scratch Garden - This channel is a favorite and it's easy to see why. There are counting songs, mini math movies, and English learning videos. The creator also has a fantastic book called Semicolons, Cupcakes, and Cucumbers which my youngest son adores! It is hilarious. I definitely recommend checking it out as well.

11. Word World - Oh my goodness, if you've never seen the show Word World before, then you're missing out. It's absolutely brilliant and my son loved this show! Basically everything, from the items in the show to the characters themselves, "are made up of the letters that spell the word they are." So Sheep, for instance, has a body made from the letters s-h-e-e-p. It's fantastic.

12. Super Why - Here's another TV show that my boys enjoyed when they were younger. It's all about reading powered superheroes.

13. Kids Learning Tube - There are playlists on this channel dedicated to geography, math, space, ABC songs, anatomy...basically everything a hyperlexic child loves!

14. Little Fox - Kids Songs and Stories - This channel has phonics songs, animated stories, sight word songs, and more. Each video uses lots of written text, making it perfect for engaging hyperlexic kids.

15. Pandrew Panz - If your kid is into numbers, counters, or countdowns, then try this channel. I know my son would have loved to watch the 1 million flip clock countdown video on repeat. But there are also a couple of videos dedicated to other topics that appeal to hyperlexic kids such as countries of the world and colors.

16. Have Fun Teaching - With playlists like adding songs, math songs, and songs dedicated to each letter of the alphabet, it's easy to see why hyperlexic kids would enjoy this channel.

17. Mr. DeMaio - This channel is jam packed with planet videos, multiplication songs, math videos, history videos, fact videos, and more.

18. Super Simple Songs - Kids Songs - Their playlist called ABCs Songs for Kids would be a great starting point for those hyperlexic kids in the height of their alphabet fascination stage.

19. Super Kids TV - If colors and/or vehicles are your hyperlexic child's thing, then try this channel.

20. Dream English Kids - A channel filled with educational songs covering topics like days of the week, shapes, numbers, spelling, sight words, and more.

21. Blippi - Educational Videos for Kids - Blippi seems to be a household name for many families. Although not ours as I think Blippi didn't become a thing until my kids were well past the preschool years. Yet, I still recognize the name despite never watching any of Blippi's videos before...Anyway, this channel was recommend by a lot of parents of hyperlexic kids so it's definitely worth checking out.

22. Numberphile - The description for this channel says "Videos about numbers - it's that simple." So yeah that should be a great fit for your older kids with hyperlexia or hypernumeracy if numbers and math are more their thing. This channel will be great for them especially if they want to dig into things beyond simple math and counting videos.

Other Specific Types of Videos to Try on YouTube

Lots of parents mentioned specific types of videos vs specific channels and I thought they were worth highlighting. These suggestions go beyond ABC songs and numbers, but you'll quickly see why these suggestions would definitely interest your hyperlexic child. I mean flags, logos, countdowns...need I say more?

1. Dancing Flags - Yes this is exactly what it sounds like...flags dancing around to some music. Perfect for your flag loving kid!

2. Word Drawing - These videos show how to transform a written word into a drawing. They might just be the best way to spark an interest in art and drawing for hyperlexic kids.

3. Logo Effects - Many hyperlexic kids love logos so the idea of watching logo animations on repeat might be a dream come true to them.

4. 36 Days of Type - These videos are perfect for kids who have an interest in typography. They're based on a challenge of the same name where graphic artists, illustrators, and designers create letters and numbers for 36 days straight.

5. New Year's Countdowns - If countdowns are your hyperlexic child's thing (and they likely are!), then try some New Year's countdown videos. Or really any kind of countdown video should do the trick.

So there you have it - the best YouTube channels for kids as recommended by parents, like yourself, who have hyperlexic kids.
