Okay this activity is a win-win situation.  Why?  Well, the kids make a mess, have fun, and learn practical skills in cleaning the house while I end up with a clean kitchen floor without having to do the work.  Sounds awesome, right?  Well, it is and it is super simple.

Materials
  • Large bowl
  • Dish soap
  • Water
  • Whisk or electric beater
  • Rags
  • Squeegee

While K was napping, J and F were making volcanoes (in other words, mixing vinegar and baking soda) in the glass bowl on the kitchen floor.  J started rubbing some of the bubbles on the floor.  So I decided to empty the bowl and just fill it with bubbles.  I mixed dish soap with a little bit of water (the measurements don't really matter) using an electric hand mixer until it was foamy and bubbly.  The kids each took a turn with the whisk to create more bubbles.  They eventually started "painting" the floor using the whisk as a brush.  That's when I decided to grab a squeegee and some rags.  Voila!  They started washing my floor!

J started singing a cleaning song while he worked and F kept saying, "This is so fun, Auntie!  I've never seen your floor so clean before!"  Either have I, but maybe I will see it that clean a lot more often ;)
