There are so many wonderful things about summer. Warm weather (finally!). Playing outside. Two boys covered in dirt. The abundance of fresh fruit or even enjoying ice cream treats. So I tried to capture all of that in this simple scented soap foam sensory play.
Soap foam is delightfully fun to play with. It's also ridiculously easy to make, especially since exact measurements don't matter too much. We have played with uncolored soap foam and colored soap foam, but we had never tried scented soap foam before. Inspired by the scents of summer, me and my sous-chefs whipped up some refreshing pink grapefruit soap foam and yummy creamsicle soap foam.

I first whipped up a giant batch of soap foam using a hand mixer. I just mix liquid soap with a splash of water until it's nice and foamy. If you've never made soap foam before, I recommend reading this soap foam recipe from Fun at Home With Kids.
For the pink grapefruit soap foam, I added neon pink food coloring (enough until it was a dreamy pink color) and a few drops of Aura Cacia Grapefruit essential oil. To make the creamsicle soap foam, I added red and yellow food coloring (mostly because I forgot that I had orange liquid watercolors!). I then added a splash of pure vanilla extract and a few drops of Aura Cacia mandarin orange essential oil.
And yes, they smelled good enough to eat! Although, please do not eat it.
You are, however, welcome to bring it up to your nose and smell it. J really loved to smell the soap foam, especially the creamsicle scent.
Then the boys each chose a bin to play with and dug right on in.
And what does one do with soap? Well, obviously, you clean stuff with it. Like the siding on the sunroom...
Or the Little Tikes climber.
And of course, the car needed a wash after the long, long winter. I absolutely adore this action shot of K swishing the soap foam around in the back of the car.
