Valentine's Day Activities for Kids

I'm not much of a holiday person. Yet, I always seem to get really excited about coming up with Valentine's Day ideas for my kids (beyond that, I don't really do Valentine's Day). I think it's because I'm a sucker for anything pink. And hearts. And love.

So here are some of the pink, heart-filled, lovely Valentine's Day activities for kids that we have enjoyed over the years.

Valentine's Day Activities for Kids

From sensory bins to math activities to light table activities to fine motor activities, here are some wonderful Valentine's Day activities for kids of all ages. You will notice that we like to reuse the same Valentine's Day materials in a variety of activities, which means you can purchase a few items (usually from the dollar store) and recreate many of these activities at home as well.

Valentine's Day Book List

Here are some of our favorite books about Valentine's Day and/or love.

Sensory Play Materials for Valentine's Day

Here are some of our favorite materials to use for Valentine's Day themed activities, sensory bins, and light table activities. You can usually find most of these materials at the dollar store.

  • Acrylic hearts - Great on the light table or for counting, color sorting, patterning, etc.
  • Heart shaped cookie cutters - We like to use these with play dough or sensory doughs, but they are a great addition to light table play or for tracing.
  • Plastic interlocking jewelry hearts - Great for working on fine motor skills, these interlocking hearts are also great on the light table.
  • Red liquid watercolors - Whether you want to paint or dye sensory bin fillers, we use a lot of red liquid watercolors around Valentine's Day.
  • Red tissue paper - We like to use it for Valentine's Day crafts, such as bleeding tissue paper art or suncatcher crafts.
