Quite a few hyperlexic kids have colors as a special interest when they're toddlers and preschoolers. And like these other more common hyperlexic interests, this interest can become quite intense.

But hyperlexic learners also need support in other areas, such as language. Particularly, conversation skills and asking and answering questions.

So this I have who has colors game is a perfect way to practice a wide variety of skills, including those language skills, while also leaning into their interest in colors.

About this I Have Who Has Colors Game

This colors game comes with 15 cards total (a couple of cards are interchangeable for gray/grey) so you can practice conversation skills, asking and answering questions, and colors.

Each card features a colored circle (or a rainbow if they are the first or last cards) with a "I have..." statement and a "Who has..." question. The cards are intentionally kept simple in design so that they're less visually distracting and less overwhelming.

Since hyperlexic kids can read, the text is easy for them to handle. It's actually a perfect written script for them to use. After all, hyperlexic kids find written scripts super helpful!

For kids who can't yet read, they can definitely memorize the pattern of the text since it always follow the same format of I have, who has? You just might have to teach them the format of the question and answer style required to play.

How to Play this Colors I Have Who Has Game

This game can be played with two players or a small group.

To play, shuffle and deal out all of the cards to all players.

Whoever has the card that says "I have the first card" goes first. They read what it says on their card, which in this case is, "Who has red?"

The player who has the red card then reads what's on their card.

Then the game continues on and on until you've gone through all of the included colors.

The game ends when the person with the last card reads, "I have the last card."

Flags are a super common interest among hyperlexic kids (see #4 on this list), which isn't surprising given that many of these kids have an interest in world maps and geography.

So, if your child (hyperlexic or not) is into flags and would be interested in designing their own, then these free blank flag templates are for you! 

These blank flags are a great way to lean into your child's interests and passions, work on fine motor skills, inspire some creativity, and so much more. And keep in mind that you can use them for more than just drawing directly on them. As you'll see below, there are some different ways to use these templates.

Suggestions for How to Use these Blank Flag Templates for Kids

Here are a few suggestions for using these flag templates. However, feel free to get creative and come up with your own ideas as well.

• Use it as a blank coloring page and let kids design their own flag designs or recreate real flags from different countries.

• Skip the crayons or markers and turn it into a collage project instead. Glue various objects or craft supplies onto the flag, such as pom poms, sticks, leaves, cotton balls, glitter, feathers, milk jug lids, pieces of tissue or construction paper, etc.

• Laminate and use dry erase markers so they are reusable. You could then include them in a busy book for road trips, flights, etc., especially when paired with some I spy games and word scramble games.

Usually their first love is letters. So simply adding letters to everything and anything can make any activity enticing to them.

Won't build with LEGO? Label them with letters and spell words.

When my hyperlexic son was younger, he was all about numbers (he still is, really!). He also went through a maze phase where he would spend hours upon hours making and completing mazes. He's also fidgety and loves fidgets. So why not combine those three things: numbers, mazes, and fidgets?

One of my sons has been interested in weather for as long as I can remember. There's a reason why we've done a few weather activities over the years. 

However, the weather, specifically clouds and storms, have also been a major source of anxiety for him.

Learning about weather though has really helped him manage his anxiety. He knows that certain types of clouds aren't going to bring storms. And he knows that hail isn't super common here. It happens only a couple of times during the summer.

When my own hyperlexic son was about 18 months, we used to walk around our neighborhood to look at license plates. He loved pointing out all the letters and numbers that he saw. It was one of his favorite outdoor activities even as he grew older.

Many hyperlexic and autistic kids, like my son, have a fascination with license plates. Especially when they're toddlers and preschoolers. It can be a great source of passion for them. On the flip side though, it can also be the cause of some safety issues, especially in parking lots.

I created this free printable license plate template with hyperlexic kids in mind. It gives them a safer way to play and explore license plates. They can create their own or try out endless combinations using the included letters and numbers or with their letter and number magnets.

About this Free Printable License Plate Template Pack

This license plate printable pack is designed with license plate loving kids in mind. It gives them a chance to create their own custom license plates. And as many times as they want. Or in any way that they want.

It includes a North American style license plate and a UK style license plate, as well as letters and numbers in a license plate font. 

Although, as you'll see below, you don't have to use the included letters and numbers. You could pair this printable pack with your child's favorite alphabet and letter manipulatives, such as number and letter magnets, a dry erase marker, or play dough.

How to Use this License Plate Template Printable

There are lots of different ways you can use this set of blank license plates. So I thought I would share a few different options.

• Laminate all the pieces and use these letters and numbers to create custom license plates again and again. You could even add velcro dots to the letters and license plate (or use sticky tack) to make the letters and numbers stick and stay in place.

• Use alphabet and number magnets to create different license plate numbers or to practice sight words or spelling words. I bet your hyperlexic child would love license plate spelling practice! Be sure to try it on a magnetic surface like a fridge for added fun. Simply hang up the blank template with magnets.

• Laminate the blank template and then use a dry erase marker to write out different license plate numbers (or spelling like the idea above).

• Use the blank plates as a coloring sheet to draw and design your own custom plate.

• Turn it into an activity to practice scissor skills and gluing. Simply cut and paste the included letters and numbers onto the blank license plate.

• Make a name craft. Cut and paste the letters of your name onto the blank template to create a vanity license plate.

• Laminate the blank template and use play dough to make letters and numbers for the license plate.

I am sure there are lots of other ideas you could come up with to make use of these blank license plates so get creative!
